How the Co-op Program Works

NCE co-op students graduate having already built a professional network and typically receive higher starting salaries than their counterparts from other schools.

Eligibility for your first co-op experience

  1. You must have completed at least 36 credits within your major.

  2. You must have maintained a GPA of 2.5 at the time you apply for approval of your co-op.

  3. You must have taken a Co-op Prep course (ENGR210 until March 2023 or ENGR211 afterwards), or obtained a waiver from your faculty co-op advisor. You can find your faculty co-op advisor list on the CDS website.
     
  4. Your CDS advisor must add you to the "co-op approved" list in Handshake.
     
  5. Any second-year or higher student can sign up for ENGR211 here.

International students have additional eligibility requirements, which you can find at the Office of Global Initiatives website.

Eligibility for your second co-op experience

You must have added 9 additional credits (usually one semester's worth) after your first co-op, and continued to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 to apply for your second co-op.

About Engineering 211

Students must complete Engineering 211, a Career Planning Seminar for Engineers, as a prerequisite to participating in a co-op.  These classes provide engineering students with emphasis on career planning, resume writing, and interview skills.

School of Applied and Engineering Technology

  • Maintain a minimum of 2.2 GPA
  • 60 credits are required
  • Must have attended NJIT for at least one full semester
  • Co-op may be able to replace required elective course
