First Year Seminar

First Year Seminar: Learning Communities

Students placed into a learning community cohort (LC) take their First Year Seminar with an academic advisor as the instructor. All first time full time freshmen at NJIT take First Year Seminar (also known as Freshmen Seminar), this course is an introductory class to the institution at large.

 

Some of the various goals of this course include the following:

  • Learn about campus resources
  • Develop effective academic and time management skills
  • Major and career exploration
  • Public speaking/presentation skills development
  • Connect with peers and campus community
  • Understand policies and procedures at NJIT
  • Understand registration process
